I have been using this casing since it was first sold by TSM and love it. We run a lot of skinless kielbasa in this casing (I know, not traditional but I build what we want to eat). It has lower water and smoke permeability than natural or edible cellulose. It has been a bit more forgiving to drying out the sausage, but still allows decent smoke penetration. With this casing I have been able to remove all the binding additives from smoked sausage recipes without it drying out or falling apart. It doesn’t hold links as well as a natural casing in the smoker but for the durability and the way it strips that is a small price to pay. It also makes nice sized rings.

No, you cannot eat plastic. Plastic is inedible. These casings are peeled off of the sausages after they are cooked for SKINLESS SAUSAGE applications.
