Caring for Spices and Seasonings
Spices and seasonings have a shelf life like any other food product. They taste the best when they are fresh.
Storage Recommendations :
Seal unused spices in airtight containers.
Store spices away from sunlight.
Do not store them in your freezer. Condensation may form
when they are opened and can reduce the spice's flavor.
For dried spices, being kept in a tightly sealed container away from
sunlight is more important than storage temperature.
How Long Do Spices Last? :
Spices will last and maintain their flavor for 3 to 4 years if properly
stored. Ground spices last closer to 3 years while whole spices last closer
to 4.
Seasoning blends maintain their flavor 1 to 2 years.
Herbs maintain their flavor 1 to 3 years.
These are general guidelines. The key to always having great-tasting spices is how fresh they were when you bought them and how well they have been stored.
