Caring for Spices and Seasonings

Spices and seasonings have a shelf life like any other food product. They taste the best when they are fresh.

Storage Recommendations :
• Seal unused spices in airtight containers.
• Store spices away from sunlight.
• Do not store them in your freezer. Condensation may form when they are opened and can reduce the spice's flavor.
• For dried spices, being kept in a tightly sealed container away from sunlight is more important than storage temperature.

How Long Do Spices Last? :
• Spices will last and maintain their flavor for 3 to 4 years if properly stored. Ground spices last closer to 3 years while whole spices last closer to 4.
• Seasoning blends maintain their flavor 1 to 2 years.
• Herbs maintain their flavor 1 to 3 years.

These are general guidelines. The key to always having great-tasting spices is how fresh they were when you bought them and how well they have been stored.
