Homemade Jerky Supplies

Homemade Jerky EquipmentThe most important piece of equipment for making any type of jerky is the dehydrator, to pull the liquids out of the meat and preserve it. We will discuss the necessary features of food dehydrators in a moment, but first we will examine a few other tools that will make creating jerky even easier. Once you have all the information you need you will be on your way to creating delicious jerky on your own.

You may want to learn more about preparing and processing meat. There are several books and videos available from The Sausage Maker that will help you learn about basic butchering, smokehouses and other related topics. You will also find all of the spices necessary for advanced homemade jerky recipes. Of course, many experienced jerky makers will tell you that the key to producing consistently delicious dried meat is starting with uniformly thin slices of meat. Our engineers have designed several tools that will help you safely slice meat for jerky. From the traditional style slicers you see in the deli to inexpensive knife and cutting board combinations, we have the tools to help you cut thin, consistent slices of meat.

Food Dehydrators from TSM

Food DehydratorsAt The Sausage Maker, we are proud to manufacture a full line of home and commercial grade dehydrators that are easy to use and will help you produce the best foods and snacks, all on your own. Whether you are drying meat as a hobby, want to process the game you bring home each hunting season or have a commercial operation, there is a TSM dehydrator for you.

The most important factor to consider when selecting food dehydrators is size. How much jerky do you expect to make at once? If you are going to dry a roast, something small like the D5 (with 5 shelves) is probably perfect. However, if you are going to dry several pounds at a time, you should consider something like the D14 (with 9 additional shelves). The next factor is shelf construction. Non stick shelves are extremely convenient, but they prevent you from using any metal utensils on them. Chrome and stainless steel shelves are more durable but will require you to use something Peel-Ease to keep your homemade jerky from sticking.

Once you determine the size and shelf construction you need, you are ready to order a dehydrator. Some extra features that commercial interests may want to consider are insulated sides and timers. These usually are not necessary for home jerky making units. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (eastern time) at (716) 824-5814.
