Food Dehydrator: Delicious Snacks
People have been using dehydration methods to preserve food for many, many years, Food dehydration is most likely one of the oldest methods of preserving food. Originally, people would use salt to remove some of the moisture in the food, and then finish drying it by letting it lie in the sun or on top of a stove. Although this is an old process, it is still a tasty one! .We now have the convenience of using a food dehydrator to dry food.
A much simpler and faster way of making delicious snacks, dried accompaniments and more!
The process of preserving food by drying it is effective because most of the moisture is removed from the food. Food easily spoils as a result of bacteria and mold growing in the moist environment that food usually provides. Once the water is removed from the food product, there is no medium for the bacteria to grow on, thus keeping the food from spoiling. Dehydrating is an ideal process for making homemade jerky, and healthy snacks such as dried fruit and vegetables. Fruit leather is also a good snack, especially for children. Jerky that you make at home can be salted, or unsalted. Unsalted jerky will generally not last as long as the salted variety, so if you are planning on storing the jerky for a long period of time, salted is probably best. The combination of low heat and constantly circulating air ensures that the meat dries properly.
